The Hudson River in the 19th Century & the Modernization of America

In preparation for the workshop, participants will be asked to purchase and read Tom Lewis’s book The Hudson (Yale University Press, 2007), which offers the most current, succinct history of the Hudson River through to the present.

Participants will be sent a copy of The Hudson: An Illustrated Guide to the Living River (Rutgers University Press, 2nd edition, 2007), by Stephen Stanne, Roger Panetta, and Brian E. Forist, and will be asked to read several chapters before the workshop.
